Fresh snow fell over the Cascade mountains last night and into the early morning. I drove up to the outlook near Ebey's Landing; the frigid air providing a clear view of the distant mountains. As the sun dipped below the treeline beside me, a warm alpenglow lit up a snow-capped Mt. Baker.

Fort Casey was built in the 1800s, and used for military defense and training up until the end of World War II. Part of the "Triangle of Fire", it was one of three strategic fortifications defending the entrance to Puget Sound. (Whidbey Island, WA)
