The low, rolling waves were churning so much, the shoreline almost resembles a tropical beach after a storm in this long exposure photo. Those are the Urchin Rocks peaking above the water line. (Rosario Beach in Anacortes, WA)
While editing this photo, an episode of "Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown" was playing on my TV. Tony was speaking with Bernardo Paz, founder of the Inhotim Institute – a contemporary art museum and botanical garden located in a secluded area of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Upon being asked if visitors need to understand art to appreciate the museum, Paz responds with his own inquiry: Paz: When you were a child, what was your first drawing? You did a mountain. A sun. A small house… Bourdain: Yes. A hill. With a small house and a sun, probably. Paz: Yes! This was *inside* you. Why did you do this drawing? Bourdain: Well, at the end, I think we all want to live on a mountain in a house with the sun. Paz: In the end? No. In the beginning… In that moment, I looked at this photo differently. I realized that a part of you would feel the same as I did while looking at this mountain scene. It's wonderful to think that, as humans, we can all connect with an innate appreciation of nature's beauty.
